The $10 that I Couldn't Spend

Today, all the teachers went to the market as a group to get some breakfast.

I was excited to go because I wanted to break my $10 bill.

However, once we got to the market, everyone went their separate ways to buy food and drinks.

I realized that I wouldn't be able to break my $10 bill. I admit that it was very frustrating.

After walking back to the school, I thought about the situation.

I realized that I was in a very poor part of the world.

$10 to me is pretty small. You can buy things with it, but you can't buy a lot of things.

In the countryside of Cambodia, $10 is worth so much that people won't have enough money to give you change.

The difference in the living standards of developed countries and developing countries is massive.

In America, I could buy a meal from McDonald's and get $5 back if I use a $10 bill.

In the rural parts of Cambodia, I can't even buy a drink or fruit without buying a very large amount if I use a $10 bill. This was a very shocking realization for me.

During classes, I continued to help make videos for the school.

The videos that we made today were in English. I like to be busy, so I'm happy that I can help with the videos.

After making videos, I helped the students study Japanese. I had some English conversations with the students, but most of them wanted to study Japanese.

Overall, it was a productive day, and the morning taught a very important lesson.
