A Visit to Phnom Penh

投稿日:2017年8月12日 更新日:

Today, we all decided to go to Phnom Penh for a variety of reasons, one of which was to take Kumiko to the airport.

We spent most of our time walking around some of the shopping areas near our hotel.

The city is very different from the countryside. The city has lots of people and tourists attractions.

Even though, Phnom Penh is very poor compared to other major cities in the world, it is very developed compared to the countryside.

I was able to spend $10 very easily here. It actually made me happy because I was able to get some smaller bills that I'll be able to use in the countryside.

On the way to Phnom Penh, we passed by a herd of cows walking along the road.

It was very interesting to see. As we got closer to the city, the amount of traffic and cars increased.

You could see many restaurants from America, Japan, and other countries too.

We checked into our hotel, and went to a department store shortly afterwards. We had to ride in a tuk tuk to get to the department store.

In the marketplace and before riding tuk tuks, we have to haggle (negotiate a fair price between buyer and consumer).

I'm not very good at haggling because I don't have the patience for it, but other people in our group are good at it.

The department store felt like we were in a developed country.

It was clean with many stores. It even had a movie theatre and arcade. It was really nice to visit.

The prices are higher than the countryside, but it's so convenient because you can buy almost anything.

We ate some ice cream and had yakiniku for dinner. It was an expensive day, but it was also a reminder about how hard life can be in the countryside.
